Standard #6: Listen
Connecting Technology & Standards, (emphasis MIDI) for elementary general music.
1. Timbre--record a song in a looping or sequencing program. Add different voices to create a layered arrangement. Select different timbres for each voice. Use the solo button to listen to each part until satisfied.
2. Texture--use the same process as #1. Choose one or two voices for thin texture, many voices for thick texture.
3. Rhythm--Record a song with melody in one voice, a simple beat ostinato in a different voice (looping or sequencing program). Compare the difference between beat and rhythm. Look at the Step Editor for each voice to compare visually.
4. Style--Record a familiar song in Band-In-a-Box. Try different styles. Have students decide which style fits the song.
5. Tempo--Use a looping, sequencing or accompaniment program to adjust the
tempo of songs for creative movements. Young children will
need a faster tempo than older students. (e.g. Pick a song
from Band-In-A-Box to use as Tinikling music--"The
Entertainer" works great).
Evalute selections for musical criteria.
