Music Technology and Children's Compositions

Learning to Compose
4th Grade

 

Goal: Students will experience a beginning composition lesson and learn about the process of composing.  The emphasis will be on process rather than the resulting end product.

Standard 4: Composing and Arranging Music within specified guidelines

Materials:
    MIDI keyboard and sequencing program
    Internet connection
    Internet plug-ins:
        for MIDI (Live Audio or comparable)
        Quicktime
        text/x-speech (Talker located at Franklin page)

Assessment
    Composition includes:
        at least two different sounds
        at least two different layers.
        describes or includes an expressive mood

  • Set the program for play.
  • Decide if you like your composition.
  • Adjust volume for each part until you like your music.
